Works as described., May 9, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: pureWash Professional-Grade Detergent-Free Laundry System (Front Load Washers) As a 58-year-old man with three advanced degrees (including broadly analytic lab science - criminalistics) and thirty years of primary home laundry experience, I viewed pureWash's technology and claims with a jaundiced eye. And I've been a "quiet environmentalist" since before participating in the first Earth Day in 1970 (IMHO consistent environmental actions speak louder than the latest "Green" condemnation demagoguery). But the "ionized water" technology has been used over the last decade in institutional and commercial settings with results at least as good as typical detergent-based laundry techniques for both sanitation and cleaning.
The pureWash unit presented favorably upon inspection, installation was quick and without incident, and the unit tested out as specified. Test load was four large heavy cotton bath-sized heavily soiled "dog towels". My spaniel girls, especially the young one, enjoy the wet Spring and get profoundly mucky. The test towels were loaded... I'm not a scientist, but I just didn't believe I could wash clothes without soap. (Soap means clean right?!) My mom was the first person I knew to try it out and she was adamant that it worked wonders. I believed it then because she is a real stickler for getting things REALLY clean. So I tried it out at her recommendation. WOW! I don't have to sort laundry, I barely have to spot treat, and I rarely have to buy new clothes. My clothes last forever. So for the cost of the unit I get to not use hot water, not buy detergent (except some spot treatment stuff), and don't have to replace my clothes anywhere near as often? That's a good investment. It's cool that I'm not dumping detergent into the wastewater as well! I have yet to find another product that makes it so easy and so practical to go green!

It seemed too good to be true.
I have always been slightly fanatical about the laundry and I will admit that my laundry room is my favorite room in my house. The soothing sounds of the machines and the clean smells make me feel like I am having a spa day. There is a window with a nice view of the garden, and we have our machines built-in, with shelves above and counters and cabinets all the way around the room. Of course the shelves were filled with every imaginable laundry product--detergents of every kind, Clorox, all-fabric bleach, stain removers, oxy-clean, pre-wash sticks and sprays, cleaning boosters, dryer sheets and fabric softeners in exotic fragrances. And I must confess that I was not thrilled about having to see the exposed water hoses running from the PureWash to the washing machine, even though it was just... Read more
